An alumnus of the University of Virginia (UVA) with a bachelor of science in finance, a juris doctor, and a master’s in international relations, David Colin Burke is a seasoned investment management professional with substantial experience in venture capital and private equity. Upon completing his formal education at UVA, David Colin Burke worked for two years as an associate at the global law firm of Bingham McCutchen LLP and, more recently, four years as an associate in Linklaters LLP’s International Capital Markets Group.
While at Linklaters, Mr. Burke relocated to its Paris office. Shortly thereafter, he joined iMediation, where he served as vice president of business development and general counsel.
In 2001 David Colin Burke returned to the United States, where for three years he served as the managing director of The Investment Fund for Foundations. In 2005 he cofounded Makena Capital Management, LLC, operating as CEO from 2013 to 2019. By the time he left the investment management firm, it had more than 400 clients worldwide and in excess of $20 billion of assets under management.
Mr. Burke leverages his considerable experience to manage Tuolumne Capital LP, a family investment office. He concurrently serves as a lecturer at UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Moreover, he serves on multiple boards, including those of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Global Citizen of the Year.
